Im wondering who's child has had this and what your experience was like?
DD is scheduled for Wednesday and was hoping to get some feedback.
Also, how many UTIs or kidney infections did your DC have before this procedure was completed?

my oldest had it after about 3 months straight of UTI's.....
I was pregnant at the time so I couldn't go back for the x-ray part..just the ultrasound. My DH took her back and when she came out she was bawling.....
It didn't hurt (that bad...DH said she got made when they put the catheter in...but didn't cry too hard for that).
She was mad and upset that they wanted her to tinkle "in the living room" as she called the x-ray room. They wanted her to go on the table, and she wasn't having it. She held it and held it and held it...crying "No we don't potty in the living room, we potty in the bathroom" until they gave up, let her go potty in the restroom and xrayed her afterwards.
She didn't have any valve issues. Turns out she was extremely constipated....I mean, she would poop every day, small bunny turds...but it was daily so I guess I didn't realize. And how constipation causes UTI's...I'm not quite sure, but I guess it presses on stuff and causes issues.
So now....we are sure to make sure she eats enough fiber and we haven't had problems since.
Good luck. It's not the most fun thing, but it really isn't THAT bad. The "peeing in the living room" part was the most traumatizing.

My DD had one in november. She had one UTI that turned into kidney infection. Her pedi ordered the VCUG and an ultrasound to rule out reflux. It certainly was not fun, but it was better than the cath sample they had to take when she had the kidney infection.
The hardest part of it all was that she had to sit still for about 15 min. on the table. There was a little discomfort when they inserted the cath, but not much. She also would not go pee after they filled her bladder. We sat there forever! After 15-20min, they told us to leave, and come back once she had a filled diaper and they would take a pic of it empty.
All of the tests came back fine. However, on tuesday she was diagnosed with her 2nd UTI. I don't understand why she got another one! It is so tough seeing them in sooo much pain! Thankfully, I knew what signs to look for and we cought it before it turned into a kidney infection this time.
Good luck on wed. I had the worst scenerio played out in my mind and it went way better than i thought it would be. Let me know if you have any other questions. I remember posting this same thing back in nov. and it felt really good to hear stories of other moms that had gone through the same thing.

My DD had a VCUG at 22 months. She had only had one UTI, but our pedi orders the test as a precaution for all kids under the age of 5, since UTIs are *typically* rare in kids that young.
Anywho - the procedure wasn't horrible. Peyton was actually sedated for the entire procedure, which was probably the most nerve wracking part. They anesthetistmadeher drink something that made her a little loopy and then administered the IV. Once she was fully sedated, we went back for the ultrasound and xrays. The whole process took about 15-20 minutes.
As much as I hated sedating her, I think it was the best option. There is no way in hell she would have stayed stilland/or peed on demand. She came out of sedation pretty well...just a little crying. The good thing about it is that she has zero memory of the entire process.
Everything came back normal. Good luck! I hope your DD's UTIs are just a fluke and/or just a by product of potty training. Our pedi did mention thatmost of the UTIs he sees in little girls(2-3 years ofa*ge)are usually due to potty training/improper wiping and not due to reflux ororther renal issues.

My DD had vesicoureteral reflux. We found it at 4mths because UTIs at that age are rare. She had the VCUG done twice, once then, and then again at 18mths when it was determined she had outgrown the reflux
